Evaluating message transmission times in Controller Area Networks without buffer preemption

چکیده

Analysis of worst-case message transmission times in CAN networks is usually performed assuming the availability of an infinite length priority queue of message buffers at the network adapter with zero access time. In reality, adapters provide a finite number of buffers for message transmission. This paper shows how to account for the availability of a limited number of buffers at the adapter and how to model the impossibility of performing preemption once a message has been copied into the adapter buffer and it is awaiting transmission. A new worst-case bound for message transmission is provided and evaluated with respect to the SAE benchmark.

Energy-Aware Probabilistic Epidemic Forwarding Method in Heterogeneous Delay Tolerant Networks

Due to the increasing use of wireless communications, infrastructure-less networks such as Delay Tolerant Networks (DTNs) should be highly considered. DTN is most suitable where there is an intermittent connection between communicating nodes such as wireless mobile ad hoc network nodes. In general, a message sending node in DTN copies the message and transmits it to nodes which it encounters. A...

Delay-Scheduled Controllers for Inter-Area Oscillations Considering Time Delays

Unlike the existing views that was introduced the existence of delay caused by the transmission of wide area measurement system data (WAMS) into the controllers input of the power oscilation damping (POD) by communication networks as a reason for poor performance of the POD controllers. This paper shows that the presence of time delay in the feedback loop may improve the performance of a POD co...

Key Resynchronizing in Low Power Wide Area Networks

LPWANs are a class of technologies that have very low power consumption and high range of communication. Along with its various advantages, these technologies also have many limitations, such as low bandwidth, connectionless transmission and low processing power, which has challenged encryption methods in this technologies. One of the most important of these challenges is encryption. The very s...

Message response time analysis for ideal controller area network (CAN) refuted

This paper revisits basic message response time analysis of controller area network (CAN). We show that existing message response time analysis, as presented in [10], is optimistic. Assuming discrete scheduling, the problem can be resolved by applying worst-case response time analysis for fixed-priority non-preemptive scheduling (FPNS) as described in [4].

Calculating Controller Area Network (can) Message Response Times

Controller Area Network (CAN) is a well designed communications bus for sending and receiving short real-time control messages at speeds of up to 1Mbit/sec. One of the perceived drawbacks to CAN has been the inability to bound accurately the worst-case response time of a given message (i.e. the longest time between queueing the message and the message arriving at the destination processors). Th...
